Investing in XPEL Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a smart move to preserve your vehicle's pristine appearance. However, to ensure it continues to perform at its best, proper maintenance is key. This guide will walk you through the essential practices to keep your XPEL PPF in top condition, ensuring your vehicle remains protected and looking its best.

1. Wait 48 Hours Before Washing After Installation

Right after installation, your film needs time to settle. Give it at least 48 hours before you wash the car. This lets the adhesive fully cure and ensures the film bonds properly to your paint.

2. Use a pH-Neutral Car Wash Soap

When you do wash, use a pH-neutral soap. Harsh chemicals can break down the film over time. A gentle soap gets the job done without harming the PPF.

3. Use the Two-Bucket Wash Method

One bucket for soapy water, the other for rinsing your mitt. This reduces the risk of rubbing dirt back into the surface and scratching the film.

4. Use a Soft Microfiber Wash Mitt

Go with a quality microfiber mitt. It lifts dirt without dragging it across the surface. That means fewer scratches and a cleaner finish.

5. Rinse Thoroughly with Clean Water

Make sure to rinse off all the soap once you're done washing. Leftover soap can leave streaks or water spots that dull the shine.

6. Dry with a Soft Microfiber Towel

Dry the car with a clean microfiber towel, and blot instead of dragging it. This helps avoid swirl marks and light scratches.

7. Apply XPEL's Recommended Sealant

Every few months, apply XPEL’s sealant. It’s made to work with their film and gives it a refreshed finish while adding another layer of protection. You can also use other sealants or ceramic coatings just make sure it will work on PPF film.

8. Promptly Remove Contaminants

Bird droppings, bug guts, tree sap—clean them off right away. These can etch or stain the film if left too long. Carpro BUG out is safe for ppf and will remove bug guts with ease.

9. Regularly Inspect the Film

Take a few minutes now and then to look over the film. Check for lifting edges, bubbling, or damage. Catching issues early makes for easier fixes.

10. Be Careful with Pressure Washers

If you use a pressure washer, keep the nozzle at least three feet away. Never spray directly at the edges of the film. Too much pressure can peel it up.

Conclusion

Taking care of your XPEL PPF isn’t complicated, but it does matter. These simple steps will help keep your film looking new and performing like it should. Your vehicle stays cleaner, protected, and sharp—just how it should be.
